January 2021 OpenNebula Newsletter contains the highlights of the OpenNebula project and its Community throughout the month.

Technology

The release of our new OpenNebula 6.0 is around the corner, so our Engineering Team, after a well deserved Christmas break, has been quite busy this month! Still, we’ve got time to engage in new technical projects and, as we announced in our OpenNebula 2020: Year in Review, these months are going to be exciting, so stay tuned!

One of those projects has to do with our recent integration with AWS Wavelength, the new service that Amazon Web Services is launching around the globe in collaboration with several 5G telecommunication providers. After our initial tests in the US, based on Verizon’s 5G infrastructure, we have now joined the Vodafone Business Edge Innovation Program with AWS, which will give us early access to Wavelength resources in Europe! đź¤“

Community

A few months ago we launched our new “Case Studies” initiative, through which we’ll be publishing a collection of testimonials by users and customers, sharing their specific requirements and ensuing experiences using OpenNebula. This month we’ve published another inspiring story, this time by Anoop Gill, System Administrator at Ooma đź‘Ź They are running four separate OpenNebula instances in datacenters across the US, with about 70 hosts and close to 500 VMs, so check it out!

Outreach

In January, our monthly OpenNebula Webinar was devoted to LINBIT SDS, the high performing, open source Software-Defined Storage solution that uses Linux OS for shared block storage. Don’t worry if you missed it, because the recording is now available on YouTube. Kudos to Yusuf Yildiz (Solutions Architect at LINBIT) and Andrei Kvapil (Cloud Architect / DevOps Engineer at WEDOS Internet) for joining us as guest speakers and contribute to such a great webinar! đź¤©

And speaking of events… please be advised that our OpenNebula Conference, that was going to take place in Brussels (Belgium) in April 2021, has been re-scheduled for September 2021, due to the on-going COVID-19 crisis…

PS: Take care of yourselves and of those around you. All our support to those who are fighting the pandemic on the front lines! đź’Ş
