Product

We’re excited to announce the release of OpenNebula 7.0.1, a feature-rich update that deepens enterprise and AI cloud capabilities on top of the foundation laid by 7.0. This release fuels our trajectory toward being the leading platform for AI factories and hybrid clouds.

Some highlights:

  • GPU enhancements: We now support GPU monitoring (metrics like utilization, memory, temperature) and NVIDIA MIG (multi-instance GPU) to boost performance isolation.
  • Storage and backup upgrades: Multi-tier caching (SSD/NVMe fronting slower storage), incremental backups across Ceph, LVM, NetApp, and native Veeam integration—these improvements help reduce I/O bottlenecks and improve data protection.
  • Stronger security and identity: Virtual TPM support for VMs, along SAML 2.0 for federated login and SSO, make OpenNebula more enterprise-ready.
  • Cloud-native / container integration: We now ship a CSI driver for Kubernetes, enabling dynamic volume provisioning and smoother hybrid VM/container workflows under a unified control plane.

In short: 7.0.1 isn’t just a maintenance release—it’s a strategic upgrade. It enables better performance, stronger isolation, tighter integration across architectures, and enhanced security—all key for customers running AI workloads, hybrid systems, or edge deployments. View the full details here.

Additionally, intensive development is already underway on the next release, OpenNebula 7.2, which will deliver even greater capabilities, scalability, and hardware integration, including:

  • Advanced GPU functionality, with full integration of NVIDIA NVLink/NVSwitch for multi-GPU configurations.
  • Certification for NVIDIA Spectrum-X, ensuring seamless support for AI and HPC networking fabrics.
  • Optimizations to the LVM driver, enabling the use of SAN appliances without relying on intermediate storage layers.
  • Storage Live Migration for seamless data mobility across nodes.
  • Enhanced CPU compatibility (EVC) to simplify workload migration across heterogeneous hardware environments.

Beyond these updates, OpenNebula Systems provides enterprise-grade services—including deployment, certified training, 24/7 premium support, as well as migration from VMware and other tools to help bring your infrastructure to the next level. You can reach out to discuss your specific situation and discover how seamless the process can be.
