Technology

This month, we’ve introduced updates to help you build more powerful and flexible cloud environments with OpenNebula.

First, we’ve launched a new RabbitMQ appliance in our Community Marketplace. This lightweight, production-ready OneApp simplifies the deployment of RabbitMQ across your OpenNebula infrastructure, offering a scalable messaging layer for microservices, IoT systems, and real-time applications.

Additionally, for those exploring AI workloads, we’ve expanded our AI-as-a-Service stack with a new version of the Ray Appliance. This robust tool supports multi-tenant deployments of large language models, featuring GPU acceleration, compatibility with Hugging Face and vLLM frameworks, and seamless integration with advanced hardware for high-performance, infrastructure agnostic AI operations. A detailed screencast is available in the blog, walking you through the setup, model selection, and deployment on a GPU-enabled host.

Configuring a system LVM Datastore in OpenNebula allows for flexible storage management, making it easier to handle virtual machine disks. This article will guide you through the essential steps to set up and configure the LVM Datastore efficiently.

Configuring LVM Datastore with iSCSI and Multipath in OpenNebula

To set up a highly available LVM Datastore with a shared LUN over iSCSI, follow these steps:

  1. Install iSCSI tools: Install open-iscsi on the compute nodes to connect to the iSCSI targets provided by your SAN.
  2. Configure Multipath: Enable multipath for redundancy, ensuring fault tolerance via multiple network paths.
  3. Set Up LVM: Create Physical Volumes (PVs) on the multipath devices, and configure a Volume Group (VG) for flexible storage management.
  4. Create LVM Datastore in OpenNebula: Set up the datastore using the fs_lvm driver, and configure your compute nodes and storage paths.

This setup improves storage availability, scalability, and performance by using LVM over iSCSI with multipath for redundancy.
