OpenNebula Techday 2015 – The OpenNebula TechDays are full day events to learn about OpenNebula with a hands-on cloud installation and operation workshop, and presentations from community members and users. These events are targeted at cloud architects, data center admins, systems admins, systems integrators, DevOps architects, and solutions architect. The emphasis is to find local speakers and users to come together and talk about things that they care about most, and to share stories from their experiences using OpenNebula.

9:00-13:00: Hands-on Workshop

Jaime Melis, OpenNebula Core Developer This hands-on tutorial will give an overview of how OpenNebula is used to build and operate private clouds. The attendees will build, configure and operate their own OpenNebula cloud.

• Planning and installing OpenNebula
• Configuration and basic usage

Audience

The target audience is devops and system administrators interested in deploying a private cloud solution, or in the integration of OpenNebula with other platform.

• Describe different architectures for a cloud that can be deployed with OpenNebula
• Deployment and basic configuration OpenNebula
• Basic operation of an OpenNebula cloud instance

Prerequisites

No prior OpenNebula skills are required, but participants should have working knowledge of virtualization, networking and Unix/Linux systems.

Material

The workshop includes hands-on exercises to be performed using attendee’s wifi-enabled laptops with VirtualBox installed. The attendees will build, configure and operate their own OpenNebula cloud.

Jaime Melis, OpenNebula Core Developer We will discuss the new features, workflows and components that will be available in the next release of OpenNebula (4.14). We will learn about disk snapshots, accounting and showback enhancements, a big boost to our Ceph and qcow2 drivers, direct GPU access, cloning of running VMs, improvement of recovery mechanisms for VMs and many other things. Daniel Dehennin, Ac-Dijon Le Pôle de Compétences Locigiels Libres a pour mission principale d’éditer la distribution GNU/Linux EOLE en collaboration avec le ministère de l’écologie, du développement durable et de l’environnemet. Après une utilisation intensive d’OpenNebula pour le développement et de qualification de la distribution EOLE, la communauté a souhaité l’intégrer à notre offre de solutions clef en main. Guillaume Oberlé, IT Department, Université de Strasbourg La direction informatique de l’Université de Strasbourg dispose d’un environnement de virtualisation composé de 700 machines virtuelles hébergées sur une centaine d’hyperviseurs. L’administration est faite à l’aide de virt-manager et de scripts python développés en interne. Suite aux nouvelles demandes de ses utilisateurs, la direction informatique a décider de mettre en place une solution de cloud privé. Le choix de l’outil s’est naturellement orienté vers une solution suffisamment flexible, personnalisable et simple pour permettre d’intégrer l’infrastructure existante et de faire face aux besoins de demain.
