OpenNebula Techday Kuala Lumpur 2016 – The OpenNebula TechDays are full day events to learn about OpenNebula with a hands-on cloud installation and operation workshop, and presentations from community members and users. These events are targeted at cloud architects, data center admins, systems admins, systems integrators, DevOps architects, and solutions architect. The emphasis is to find local speakers and users to come together and talk about things that they care about most, and to share stories from their experiences using OpenNebula.
The TechDay will be held at
Technology Park Malaysia
57000 Kuala Lumpur

Agenda and Speakers
Agenda includes a hands-on cloud installation and operation workshop, and presentations from OpenNebula community members and users.
9:00 – 9:10: Opening Remarks
Dr. Ong Hong Hoe, Senior Director, Advanced Computing & Accelerative Technology Lab at MIMOS
9:15 – 9:45: An Introduction to OpenNebula: A Project Perspective
Ignacio M. Llorente, Project Director at OpenNebula
We’re moving into a world of open cloud — where each organization can find the right cloud for its unique needs. A single cloud management platform can not be all things to all people, there will be a cloud space with several offerings focused on different environments and/or industries. The OpenNebula commitment to the open cloud flows directly out of its mission — to become the simplest cloud enabling platform — and its purpose — to bring simplicity to the private and hybrid enterprise cloud. OpenNebula exists to help companies build simple, cost‐effective, reliable, open enterprise clouds on existing IT infrastructure. The OpenNebula project is really vendor‐agnostic and completely driven by users needs with features that meet real demands. The session will introduce the OpenNebula project from different perspectives, ranging from its historical milestones and main contributors to its most relevant users and the size of their cloud deployments.
An Introduction to OpenNebula, A Project Perspective – Ignacio M. Llorente from OpenNebula Project
9:45 – 10:15: An Introduction to OpenNebula: A Technology Perspective
Ruben S. Montero, Chief Architect at OpenNebula
In this talk we will provide an OpenNebula’s technology walkthrough. We cover the main architecture, components and design, as well as the latests workflows and features. Also some of the hottest topics for OpenNebula 5.0 will be presented.
OpenNebula 5.0 Highlights – Rubén S. Montero from OpenNebula Project
10:15 – 10:30: Break
10:30 – 11:00: Mi-ROSS – MIMOS Reliable Object Storage System
Luke Jing Yuan, Senior Staff Engineer, Advanced Computing Lab at MIMOS
The deluge of data in recent years requires a different approach in implementation of storage system more so in a Cloud environment. A distributed object based storage used by Mi-ROSS offers an open platform that allows data to be stored in a cost effective way yet highly available and redundant. The open platform adopted by Mi-ROSS also allows it to be deployed in multiple ways depending on various situations and requirements.

11:00 – 11:30: Mi-Acclib – MIMOS Accelerator Library offers parallelised data analysis to enable ultra-speed big data processing across a heterogeneous platform
Yong Keh Kok, Senior Staff Engineer, Accelerative Technology Lab at MIMOS
MIMOS Mi-AccLib is an accelerator library designed to enable ultra-speed big data processing with data and process parallelism. This MIMOS proprietary software library offers a heterogeneous hardware accelerated computing environment to leverage hardware acceleration through parallelisation. The library capitalises on different processor capabilities while maintaining application usage needs to parallelise data analysis.
11:30 – 12:30: Traditional Cloud vs Future Cloud – Current MIMOS Cloud Implementation and Future Direction
Fairus Khalid, Principal Engineer, Advanced Computing Lab at MIMOS
Cloud Computing service has been around more than a decade. The type of services has evolves from infrastructure to application/api centric. The talks will share the progression of Cloud Computing and some sample technologies that enable the future cloud.
Cloud Computing as Innovation Hub – Mohammad Fairus Khalid from OpenNebula Project
12:30 – 14:00: Lunch and Networking Session
14:00 – 15:00: Cloud Deployment – Demonstration on Cloud Deployment
Nazarudin Wijee, Senior Staff Engineer, Advanced Computing Lab at MIMOS
The presentation is on multiple deployment scenarios of cloud computing based on MIMOS experiences.
Mi-Cloud Deployment Scenarios – Nazarudin Wijee from OpenNebula Project
15:00 – 16:00: Edge Computing – Demonstration on Edge Computing
Bukhary Ikhwan Ismail, (Senior Engineer, Advanced Computing Lab at MIMOS
Edge computing shifts the paradigm from centralized to decentralized; by utilizing compute, network and storage resources that is closer to the user. It pushes the content and service away from the center nodes e.g. Datacenter (DC) or cloud to the logical extremes of a network. Ideally a “one hop” away from the user, the closer the application and content, the better Quality of Experience (QoE) will user attain.

16:00 – 17:00: Open Space
This is a session for attendees to gather and discuss passionate questions, burning ideas, features, integrations or any topic of their choice, in an informal and tech-friendly environment, with other passionate and interested people. There is no preplanned list of topics, only time slots and a space in one of the meeting rooms where interested participants propose topics and pick time slots.
