How to Backup and Restore OpenNebula VMs with Rsync

While OpenNebula offers multiple ways to back up your virtual machines, some methods require specialized software, and others are only available in the Enterprise Edition.

Rsync-based backups provide the simplest way to start protecting your virtual environment using native tools available on nearly every Linux distribution. No third-party software is needed, and backups are fully managed from the OpenNebula Frontend.

Prerequisites

To avoid potential issues during the session, we recommend completing the following prerequisites before attending (minimum requirements):

• Minimum requirements: 
• One server with OpenNebula installed using miniONE.
• 100GB disk space.
• Recommended:
• One server with OpenNebula Frontend-only installation.
• One server with the opennebula-node-kvm package installed and added to OpenNebula Frontend as a KVM hypervisor.
• One server with rsync & qemu-utils.
• You must have access to the OpenNebula Frontend node via a browser and SSH protocol.
• Your environment should have unrestricted network access.
