As part of the Techday Events, on February 21, OpenNebula Systems had the pleasure of co-hosting an event in the vibrant city of Bilbao, which is rapidly emerging as a technical hub for AI enablement in northern Spain. The event took place at the B Accelerator Tower and brought together over 80 attendees from top companies in the region. The event focused on the integration of Edge, Cloud, and AI, showcasing how AI is transforming cloud infrastructure and how cloud technologies are enabling the next generation of AI applications..

The event featured various formats, including the following panel discussions:

  • “Using AI to Manage Your Digital Infrastructure” focused on the current state of AI technologies and expectations for automation and multi-cloud management. The session featured the participation of leading cloud providers, including Data Center Euskadi, Arsys, OVHcloud, and LKS infrastructures, fostering a dynamic discussion on AI-driven cloud operations and future trends.
  • “Real Use Cases Where AI Is Making a Difference” focused on how companies are leveraging AI to drive innovation and enhance their business capabilities through their infrastructures. The session featured insights from leading enterprises, including CAF, Arteche, and Eroski, showcasing real-world applications of AI in optimizing operations and improving efficiency.

The event also featured two real-world demos from the COGNIT initiative, led by OpenNebula Systems, showcasing successful cognitive cloud use cases:

  • IKERLAN and Mondragon Corporation presented an innovative FaaS paradigm designed to optimize edge computing workflows. Their approach focused on code offloading to enhance execution efficiency, and intelligent data processing placement, dynamically adjusting based on application demands, behavior, and energy efficiency heuristics.
  • ACISA highlighted the critical role of AI-driven cloud solutions in urban traffic planning. Their demo explored how daily traffic fluctuations impact cloud and edge resource demand, emphasizing the need for smart resource optimization to reduce costs and minimize energy consumption, and eco-friendly cloud strategies for sustainable urban development.

The event also included opening and closing keynotes delivered by regional public institutions, such as the Basque Government and Basque Artificial Intelligence Centre, highlighting the strategic importance of AI, cloud, and edge computing in regional digital transformation initiatives, the development and adoption of AI-based solutions, and a presentation being done at the IPCEI-CIS program to enable AI Factories.

Additionally, there was a presentation on the IPCEI-CIS program, showcasing its role in enabling AI Factories and fostering OpenNebula leadership in AI-driven cloud infrastructure.
