Today we are happy to announce a new, powerful True Hybrid Cloud Architecture for OpenNebula. This reference architecture is composed of hybrid clusters that can run any workload, both virtualized and containerized, on any resource, physical or virtual, anywhere, on-premises and on the cloud.
Our True Hybrid Cloud Architecture implements enterprise-grade features for performance, availability and scalability with a very simple design that enables workload portability across geographic distributed clusters, avoids vendor lock-in and reduces complexity, resource consumption and operational costs across the board.
Now more than ever, IT departments need the right blend of on-premises, public and edge cloud environments to support the collection of existing and emerging use cases. They also need to combine virtual machine workloads with application containers in a shared environment that can offer the best of both worlds—mature virtualization technology and secure container orchestration.
Over a decade’s worth of experience working with hundreds of users and customers has helped us define a True Hybrid Cloud Architecture that is much simpler than the traditional cloud computing architectures made of complex, proprietary general-purpose software systems for storage and networking. This one builds upon storage and networking technologies that already exist in the Linux operating system and modern storage hardware that are available from existing cloud and edge providers, leading to a greatly simplified design.
The True Hybrid Cloud Architecture will be the recommended and commercially supported cloud configuration for hybrid and edge computing with OpenNebula. While support for this architecture won’t be available to the general public until the next version of OpenNebula (due in January 2021), in the following days we are announcing the delivery of cloud deployment services, enterprise support and managed services for OpenNebula 5.12 clouds based on this innovative architecture. You can enjoy a single vendor experience with a complete cloud stack fully supported and managed by OpenNebula Systems. This ultimately affords a simplified experience for procurement, consulting, support and management.
