OpenNebula Systems is delighted to announce its participation in FOSDEM 2025, one of the most renowned gatherings for open source innovators. Held in Brussels on February 1-2, this event unites developers, technologists, and advocates to share insights, explore advancements, and collaborate on the future of technology.

This year, OpenNebula Systems will showcase its contributions to groundbreaking projects like the €3 billion IPCEI Cloud initiative, alongside innovative solutions for hybrid cloud, AI, and telco cloud architectures. Through an exciting lineup of talks and demonstrations, we’ll highlight how our open source technologies are redefining the cloud and edge computing landscape, advancing digital sovereignty, and fostering resilience.

In-Depth Sessions on Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure

On February 2, join OpenNebula Systems’ experts in the Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure Devroom as they explore some of the most compelling advancements in open source cloud technology:

Building AI Factories with Open Source Tools

Aleksejs Petrovs, Technical Trainer at OpenNebula Systems, will introduce the concept of “AI Factories,” a revolutionary architecture optimized for AI workloads. Attendees will learn how OpenNebula integrates advanced features such as GPU passthrough, hybrid cloud deployment, and pre-configured AI appliances to create vendor-neutral environments. These innovations accelerate AI development pipelines and enable seamless scaling of multi-tenant environments, delivering an “AI as a Service” model. Through practical examples, Pablo will demonstrate how to combine high-performance compute capabilities with flexible hybrid cloud strategies, empowering organizations to deploy AI solutions efficiently and cost-effectively.

Unlocking the Hybrid Cloud: An Open Source Approach

Discover OpenNebula Formation, also known as “oneform,” an open source automation tool crafted to simplify hybrid cloud deployments. Presented by Victor Palma, Cloud Engineer at OpenNebula Systems, this session will demonstrate how oneform ensures seamless integration of private and public cloud resources while maintaining compliance with regional regulations and avoiding vendor lock-in. Attendees will experience a live demonstration of oneform’s capabilities, showcasing its power to provision complex infrastructures and unify operations across platforms. The talk will also delve into its potential for creating multi-cloud setups that combine providers from Europe and the U.S., delivering unmatched flexibility and scalability for modern infrastructure needs.

A Highly Distributed Cloud Architecture for Telco NFV Deployments

Gain insights into telco cloud architectures with a focus on geo-distributed clusters designed for telecom operators. This session, led by Madalin Neag, Product Manager at OpenNebula Systems, will explore the technical challenges of deploying 5G and edge computing use cases using open source solutions. Topics include Enhanced Platform Awareness (EPA), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and bare-metal automation, showcasing how OpenNebula’s distributed architecture meets diverse telecom needs. Madalin will demonstrate how these solutions empower telcos to efficiently manage and scale their infrastructure while supporting advanced services such as CDN, O-RAN, and 5G Core Network deployments.

Portability and Interoperability across a Pan-European Virtualized Cloud-Edge Continuum

Jordi Guijarro, Principal Technologist for Cloud-Edge Innovation at OpenNebula Systems, will tackle the challenge of ensuring seamless portability and interoperability across Europe’s cloud-edge continuum, a key objective of the EU Data Act coming into effect in September 2025. He will present a new open source virtualization layer developed within the IPCEI-CIS project, designed to facilitate smooth transitions between cloud providers. This layer enables applications to run across different platforms without conversion and supports efficient workload migration with minimal downtime. Using a multi-provider testbed demonstration, Jordi will illustrate how this system fosters a competitive and flexible cloud ecosystem, aligning with the EU’s vision of data sovereignty and market openness.
