With over 6,000 attendees, more than 100 speakers, and 60+ devrooms (or tracks), another exciting edition of FOSDEM (currently, the 25th) took place during the first weekend of February, as per tradition, at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. OpenNebula Systems’ experts had the opportunity to participate in the Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure devroom, where we delivered four insightful talks covering key projects and features we’re actively working on. Our presentations ranged from introducing the virt8ra framework and exploring automation implementations to discussing our telco-related efforts and unveiling the concept of “AI Factories” for optimizing workloads.
Unique Community-Driven Event
FOSDEM is a truly community-driven event, welcoming developers from all backgrounds, experience levels, and skill sets from across the globe. Over the course of two action-packed days, attendees can engage in a wide array of activities, talks, and discussions on emerging trends in open source and cutting-edge developments in various projects. While the sheer scale of the event may feel overwhelming for first-time visitors, navigating FOSDEM becomes much easier once you get used to its long queues and packed rooms—even if that means occasionally watching a talk while standing in a corner!
Fortunately, thanks to online streaming, most sessions can be watched live or accessed as recordings a few weeks later. For those who prefer to skip the unpredictable Brussels weather, this is an excellent alternative. However, nothing quite matches the experience of attending in person, engaging in spontaneous hallway conversations, and collecting stickers from the various project stands.
Exploring Key Open Source Projects
This year, we had the pleasure of interacting with several notable projects, including Eclipse, Grafana, AlmaLinux, Ceph, Jenkins, and the CNCF, to name a few. While our primary focus was on the Virtualization Devroom, we also attended insightful sessions in the Containers, Confidential Computing, and HPC & Big Data devrooms, where we explored fascinating initiatives and emerging technologies.
With such a packed schedule, we inevitably missed some interesting talks. Thankfully, the recordings will soon be available, allowing us to catch up on everything we couldn’t attend in person—including our own sessions from this edition. Once released, you’ll be able to find the videos for each session:
- A Highly Distributed Cloud Architecture for Telco NFV Deployments
- Unlocking the Hybrid Cloud: An Open Source Approach
- Building AI Factories with Open Source Tools
- Portability and Interoperability across a Pan-European Virtualized Cloud-Edge Continuum
For updates on their availability, check here. Stay tuned!
We’re already looking forward to participating again next year, hopefully with even more talks and exciting updates to share with the community. See you in Brussels in 2026!
