9:00 â 9:30: An Introduction to OpenNebula
Ignacio M. Llorente, Project Director at OpenNebula Weâre moving into a world of open cloud â where each organization can find the right cloud for its unique needs. A single cloud management platform can not be all things to all people, there will be a cloud space with several offerings focused on different environments and/or industries. The OpenNebula commitment to the open cloud flows directly out of its mission â to become the simplest cloud enabling platform â and its purpose â to bring simplicity to the private and hybrid enterprise cloud. OpenNebula exists to help companies build simple, costâeffective, reliable, open enterprise clouds on existing IT infrastructure. The OpenNebula project is really vendorâagnostic and completely driven by users needs with features that meet real demands. The session will introduce the OpenNebula project from different perspectives, ranging from its historical milestones and main contributors to its most relevant users and the size of their cloud deployments. |
9:30-13:00: Hands-on Workshop
Javier FontĂĄn, OpenNebula Core Developer This hands-on tutorial will give an overview of how OpenNebula is used to build and operate private clouds. The attendees will build, configure and operate their own OpenNebula cloud. |

The workshop includes hands-on exercises to be performed using attendeeâs wifi-enabled laptops with VirtualBox installed. The attendees will build, configure and operate their own OpenNebula cloud.
13:00-14:00: Lunch
14:00 â 17:00: Presentations
14:00-14:30: OpenNebula is Evolving⊠Fast!
Javier FontĂĄn, OpenNebula Core Developer Ignacio M. Llorente, OpenNebula Project Director We will discuss the new features, workflows and components that will be available in the next release of OpenNebula (4.14). We will learn about disk snapshots, accounting and showback enhancements, a big boost to our Ceph and qcow2 drivers, direct GPU access, cloning of running VMs, improvement of recovery mechanisms for VMs and many other things. |
14:30 â 15:00: OpenNebula at BlackBerry
Chris Johnston, Principal Platform Architect, Cloud Team at BlackBerry Limited Khoder Shamy, Principal Technical Lead, Cloud Team at BlackBerry Limited. We will present our use-case of OpenNebula that facilitated building a large multi-regional and multi-tenant private cloud at BlackBerry for internal service loads. A high level overview of the different open-source building blocks of our private cloud will also be explained. |
15:00 â 15:30: Hyperconvergence and OpenNebula
Varadarajan Narayanan, CEO at Megam Systems Storage is often the bottle neck for virtualised infrastructure where customer is locked in with proprietary and expensive SAN like solutions. Hyperconvergence seems to be promising where commodity hardware can be used to provide scalable , fault tolerant infrastructure. Combining Opennebula platform with a distributed storage solution bundled with caching with high speed SSDs seems to be good idea to offer a high performance hyperconvergent solution. Pros and cons of distributed and centralised storage systems and performance comparison are studied here. |
