Technology
January has been bustling for us at OpenNebula, even right after the Christmas break. It seems there’s hardly a moment to pause in our dynamic environment! For a recap of our 2023 activities, take a look at our year-in-review.
We’re on the brink of releasing OpenNebula 6.8.2, so watch this space for updates. Talking about releases, a few weeks back we released the v1.4.0 of our Terraform provider, thanks to our partners at Iguane Solutions. But thatβs not all folks! We also released two projects to make your life easier, one-apps and one-deploy. Both open source projects are built around OpenNebula to make your cloud deployments much simpler, and with tons of automation involved. Feel free to fork these projects and share your thoughts with us!
π‘ MESSAGE FROM THE ENGINEERING DECK
Exciting times are ahead for OpenNebula users! FireEdge Sunstone is growing quickly and soon will be coming of age! Just a few tabs left to be ported, and we can give some well-deserved rest to our dear current Sunstone. Be ready for the switch! But these are not the only improvements we are making to OpenNebula, with exciting projects such as one-deploy (to help build different types of OpenNebula clouds) and one-apps (to help create new appliances to run on an OpenNebula cloud).
Community
We’ve kickstarted our webinar series again, and last month, we were thrilled to have Nizamudeen A from IBM talk about Ceph. We explored OpenNebula’s integration with Ceph, its benefits for enterprise storage management, and a live demo of its dashboard showing off various integrations (Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager) with these open source tools.
For the next webinar, which is scheduled for the 21st of February, we will introduce you to the one-apps project that we mentioned earlier. During this webinar, we will show how you can simplify creating public, ready-to-use marketplace appliances with embedded contextualization packages aimed at configuring the VM guest OS. So if you havenβt yet registered, do it now!
Outreach
π§πͺ In terms of events, this month has been pretty active for us at OpenNebula, especially since two of our talks were accepted at FOSDEM 2024, both presented by Victor Palma! The first talk focuses on deploying hyper-converged infrastructure with Ceph in the Software Defined Storage Devroom, while the second, in the Virtualization Devroom, covers AI-driven observability in cloud-edge systems. And remember, if you spot someone in a blue hoodie with an astronaut on the back, that’s our team β come say hi for a sticker!
πͺπΈ We’re thrilled to be at MWC 2024 in Barcelona, showcasing our work in the telco domain. We’ll highlight how our edge computing features support distributed cloud environments, assisting telco/5G operators in efficiently managing edge cloud infrastructures. Expect to see Telco Edge use cases from the ONEedge5g.eu project, part of Spain’s UNICO I+D 6G Programme. Visit us in Hall 4, Spanish Pavilion, to discover more about these innovative projects and discuss potential opportunities. See you there!
