OpenNebula supports diverse infrastructure needs, from AI Factories combining cloud and HPC resources to flexible Kubernetes environments. Across the Benelux region, our growing ecosystem includes customers such as Ghent University, which uses OpenNebula to manage its HPC and GPU infrastructure, and partners such as TrueFullstaq, which works with the platform to support cloud-native infrastructure.
These two examples reflect different capabilities of OpenNebula: AI and accelerated computing in the research environment, discussed at EGI 2026 in Ghent, and cloud management through our collaboration with TrueFullstaq at Edgecase 2026 in Hilversum, where we showcased OpenNebula as an open alternative for managing cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes environments.
AI Factory Infrastructure at EGI 2026
EGI 2026 brought the research and digital infrastructure community to Ghent, a city already home to an OpenNebula deployment. Ghent University uses the platform to manage its HPC and GPU infrastructure, providing a relevant local example of OpenNebula supporting research and accelerated computing environments.
Against this backdrop, OpenNebula led the workshop “Building an AI Factory: Delivering GPUaaS and LLMaaS for Hybrid HPC-Cloud Environments.” The session explored how distributed cloud and HPC resources can work together to deliver AI services, including GPU-as-a-Service and LLM-as-a-Service.
The workshop also looked at how Kubernetes and Slurm can work alongside OpenNebula to support different AI and HPC workloads, helping organizations make use of accelerated infrastructure while building on their existing environments.

Elastic Kubernetes with TrueFullstaq at Edgecase
OpenNebula Systems joined TrueFullstaq at Edgecase 2026 in Hilversum for a hands-on look at Kubernetes infrastructure and sovereign cloud.
Our team delivered the keynote “Elastic Kubernetes Needs a Home: Why Infrastructure Is Key,” exploring the role of the underlying infrastructure in running scalable, multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
The event also featured two practical workshops. Participants could get hands-on with Kubernetes on OpenNebula using OneKS, while the second workshop focused on building a sovereign cloud management environment with open infrastructure.
Together, the sessions demonstrated how OpenNebula can provide the infrastructure layer for Kubernetes environments while giving teams control over where and how their workloads run.

From AI Factories to Kubernetes
EGI and Edgecase showcased two complementary OpenNebula capabilities: supporting GPU-accelerated AI and HPC environments and providing flexible infrastructure for Kubernetes and cloud-native workloads.
Recent platform developments continue to expand these capabilities. OpenNebula 7.4.1, released in September, includes further improvements for Kubernetes and infrastructure management, while the Kubespray Terraform provisioning workflow provides another way to automate Kubernetes deployments with OpenNebula.
