Technology

May has been a landmark month for OpenNebula! For starters, the amazing OpenNebula 6.4 “Archeon” was released 🚀 This new stable version (our latest LTS after OpenNebula 5.12) comes with many cool features demanded by the community, including the ability to automatically deploy and manage Edge Clusters based on Ceph!

Following the release of 6.4, we also updated our new Edgify service: our Edge-as-a-Service platform is now running on the latest version of OpenNebula 🤓 Make sure you try it out!

But that’s not all! We also published a new CE Patch Release: OpenNebula 6.2.0.1. As anticipated in our Release Policy, this version comes with the open source migration packages that you will need to upgrade your old versions to the 6.2 series.

Community

For the Telecom audience, we got a couple of pretty good surprises for you last month 📡 On the one hand, we published a new white paper on OpenNebula’s Enhanced Platform Awareness (EPA) where we present the current capabilities of OpenNebula to address, among others, the requirements for Network Function Virtualization (NFV) deployments.

Also in May we had a timely contribution to our Community Blog: a guest post by our colleagues from Telefónica—the leading Spanish Telecom operator—explaining how they’ve been using OpenNebula to successfully address a challenging edge computing scenario involving NFV too. Check it out!

Outreach

May has also been a month full of exciting events, starting with Cloud Expo Europe Frankfurt 2022! We participated in this major event with a number of sessions and demos, and also with a beautiful booth. It was also a great occasion to meet again, after these couple of years, with our beloved community of users, customers, and partners from Germany.

And then finally came our own OpenNebulaCon2022! 🎉 After having to postpone it several times due to the pandemic, we had a hugely successful first virtual OpenNebula Conference. For this 9th edition of our main community event we were joined by around 400 participants, which came together to enjoy an amazing line-up of 40 great speakers from 25 different organizations, including AlmaLinux, Canonical, the MariaDB Foundation, SUSE, Telefónica, Capgemini, Deutsche Telekom, Atos, Vantage Towers, and many others! Big thanks to all of them, and kudos to this edition’s sponsors: LINBIT and StorPool 👏 The recordings are now available on-demand, by the way!

opennebulacon congrats
