October is over, but there’s more to come! Our engineering team had a pretty busy month, especially with the release of our much-awaited OpenNebula 6.8 ‘Rosette’ 🤩 This new release offers better virtualization capabilities, improved backup features, and a number of additions to our latest FireEdge Sunstone GUI. If you’re already using OpenNebula, update now! And if you’re new, download it, try it out, and share your feedback with us!

After launching this new major release of OpenNebula, we’ve published the migrator packages for OpenNebula 6.6 Community Edition. As usual, this version comes with the open source package you’ll need for smoothly upgrading your OpenNebula cloud to the 6.6 CE series 🚀 Heads up: there won’t be more Patch Releases for the 6.6 Community Edition after this one.

📡 MESSAGE FROM THE ENGINEERING DECK
The development team is now in overdrive mode with OpenNebula 7.0 on the horizon. The new FireEdge Sunstone GUI is nearing the finish line, introducing new tabs like Groups and VMGroups, and working on revamped OneFlow Service tabs. Additionally, we're focusing on the KVM driver to leverage and offer more features, allowing both OpenNebula cloud admins and end-users to fine-tune virtualization options.

🛰️ Our webinar series continues to gain momentum, featuring exciting collaborations with our partners and users. Last month, we explored how to maximize OpenNebula’s monitoring capabilities through our latest native integrations with Prometheus and Grafana. You can watch the full session on our YouTube channel. Stay tuned for our next webinar, in which we’ll be discussing how to migrate from VMware to OpenNebula!

🤝 We’re also excited about our partnership with 5SKYE, a Netherlands-based company, aiming to drive advancements in cloud-edge computing for Smart Cities! This collaboration will focus on advancing 5G, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC), and open source cloud edge solutions. Discover more in our press release.

Outreach

🇪🇸 We were thrilled to participate a few days ago in the annual Cloud Expo Europe Madrid 2023. With an impressive turnout of over 15,000 attendees and nearly 350 keynote speakers, the event was momentous. Not only did we set up an impressive booth, but we also put together an amazing lineup of speakers from partners and customers of ours such as ACISA, IBM, Ikerlan, Red Hat, SUSE, Telefónica, Todo En Cloud, and UC3M. The interactions and insights gained from the community were invaluable.
