Technology

As the shortest month of the year comes to an end, so does our support for OpenNebula 5.12 LTS. We terminated our support to 5.12 LTS on February 10, 2023, in accordance with our policy which states that all Long Term Support versions must be maintained for a period of two years with their support ending nine months after the subsequent LTS version has been released. Therefore, for those of you who are in search of an LTS edition that offers more stability, we highly suggest that you upgrade to OpenNebula 6.4 ✨

πŸ‘ We appreciate all feedback from our users and customers as it helps us to refine our software. Therefore, we kindly asked our community to provide their valuable input and to aid us in gathering information about their cloud experience and growing needs. If you haven’t had a chance to share your thoughts, we encourage you to do so in our Architecture Survey 2023. The deadline has been moved to March 3rd, 2023 πŸ“…

πŸ“‘ Moreover, we have been cooperating very closely with a great number of telecom providers to identify how OpenNebula can assist telco and 5g operators in the deployment and management of their edge cloud infrastructures in the real world. Our comprehensive article regarding how you can accelerate telco edge deployments using OpenNebula can be accessed here.

πŸ“‘ MESSAGE FROM THE ENGINEERING DECK
OpenNebula 6.6.1 will come with a series of improvements in the new backup subsystem to limit CPU and I/O resources consumed by the backup operations, restore incremental backups from a specific increment in the chain, and automatically prune restic repositories and retention policy for incremental backups. Further developments, such as adding support for nested groups in LDAP, are in the works πŸ› οΈ

Outreach

πŸ“’ FOSDEM 2023 was an enjoyable event and provided us with a unique opportunity to meet with members of the open source community and to debate the most recent trends, challenges, and chances in cloud and edge computing. To make it even more special, three of our talks were accepted, including an exciting demo about how to use OpenNebula to deploy Kubernetes across Hybrid and Multi-Cloud environments. We will publish the recordings once they are available, so stay tuned! πŸš€

πŸ‘‰ We will also be taking part in DCD’s Building the Edge Europe 2023 which is to occur next week. You are invited to view the broadcast, in which we discuss the measures needed to guarantee that edge infrastructure, including networks, can keep up with the latest demands.

And don’t forget that the OpenNebula team is growing! Visit our Careers page for more details about our all-remote policy and the open positions that you can apply to πŸ˜‰
